The Area Has an Interesting and Rich History
Before Palm Desert was called by its modern name, it was referred to as Old Macdonald Ranch! By the 1920s, the area became an oasis for date palms to be planted and cultivated and the name transitioned to Palm Village. Residential developments began growing in the area around 1943 in conjunction with the Army maintenance camp that was established. The city was officially incorporated in 1973 and has since become a mecca of retail fun, amazing eateries, stunning views and tantalizing hiking trails too!

Many visitors to Palm Desert head this way in expectation of plenty of sunshine and great weather, but fewer know why that’s the case. The answer lies in the area’s climate being affected by the surrounding geography. There are high mountains found on three sides of Palm Desert and a south-sloping valley too. In combination, these landforms lend themselves to a unique year-round warm weather climate with average highs lingering around 89 degrees Fahrenheit and lows down to 62 degrees.
